Wool Sorting

The most luxurious garments can only be made from the finest yarns. In order to make high-quality chiengora yarns you have to start from the very beginning - prepare the fiber very carefully and scrupulously.

The first step in processing the brushed-out dog undercoat into the finest chiengora yarns is SORTING. Sorting is the process of separating different qualities of raw dog wool and eliminating impurities, such as guard hair, coarse hair, matted undercoat. At Friendly Textiles we do the dog wool sorting manually. We separate the wool into two grades - the 1st grade (fine) and the 2nd grade (rough). All the rest (“waste”) is composted, as it is the best natural fertiliser for plants, fruits and vegetables!

Chiengora is sustainable and biodegradable, the production of chiengora yarns is zero waste production.
